THE 120m Marion Gift will headline a sports festival at the Marion Sports and Community Club tonight (January 25) to celebrate Australia Day.

Marion Council and Club Marion are co-hosting the Australia Day Eve Community Sports Festival at the Sturt Rd ground, which will also include a full round of SA Athletics League races.

The free event starts at 4.30pm, with children’s coaching clinics in sports including cricket, volleyball, softball and karate.

There will also be a jumping castle and face painting for the children, plus a barbecue.

The SA Athletics League meet will start at 6.30pm, with the highlight the running of the 120m Marion Gift.

More than 180 athletes, including Hollie Moran and Jack Sutton, will take part in a 10-event program on the night.

Events include the 120m, 300m, 550m and 800m, with competitors racing for $5000 in prizemoney.

Marion Mayor Felicity-ann Lewis said the event was a gift to the community.

“It combines a mega community sports festival with a ceremony to honour Marion’s citizen, young citizen and event of the year, as well as welcoming more than 40 new Australians", she said.
