Noosa Gift double winner Andrew Hodges.

Hodges wins Noosa Gift double

Sunshine Coast Daily
18th October 2010

BUDERIM-born decathlete Andrew Hodges came away from the Noosa Gift a double winner yesterday, in the 70m and 100m sprints.

Hodges, 20, dominated the event at Read Park, Tewantin, winning the $1000 100m main event in 10.266 seconds.

From a 10.50m handicap Hodges finished strongly to pip Jack Conway, who started from a 5.75m handicap, by 0.12 seconds.

Hodges, who lives and studies in Brisbane, called the win the biggest of his life and an unexpected surprise. “That's got to be my top win, definitely,” he said.

“I knew I would go well. I prepared well for this and I was running well throughout the week and last week.”

Prior to yesterday Hodges' biggest result came at the $3000 Ipswich Gift when he placed third behind winner Mitchell Delacy of Beerwah.

However, Hodges had Delacy's number yesterday, with Delacy finishing fifth in 10.601 seconds.

The event was scheduled for October 12 but was postponed because of the wet weather.

Hodges said he felt the win coming after preparing and racing well over the past two weeks.

“I expected to do pretty well,” he said.

“I know most of these guys because we race pretty regularly.”

Hodges finished the 70m in 7.313 seconds from an 8.50m handicap.

He finished ahead of Patrick Box, who was second in 7.346 seconds.

Box also finished third in the 100m.
