TEA Tree Gully Senior Athletics Club desperately needs athletes and volunteers to allow it to compete this summer.

The Banksia Park-based club is in recess while it tries to establish a six-member committee in time for the start of Athletics SA season in October.

The club, which was formed in 1975, has only 23 registered athletes and needs a further seven to earn points towards statewide competitions.

Bruce Ainslie, president of the Centre Management Committee, which is running the club, said it was once considered among the state's best and was A Grade men's premiers as recently as 2006.

However, Mr Ainslie said membership numbers had consistently dropped in the past five years.

"It's been an issue for the past two years that we haven't had enough members to form the committee," he said.

Mr Ainslie said there were concerns junior members would suffer if they were unable to represent the club at senior level.
