In 2003 I was invited to take part in the Australian bobsleigh program. A few years later our team proudly represented Australia at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.
It took discipline, determination, dedication and years of hard work to earn that privilege. I will devote the same qualities to representing the people of Kilsyth district in the Victorian parliament.
The invitation to join the bobsleigh program came as a result of my success as a track and field athlete. I have competed in track and field for more than 20 years. In 1992 I represented the Australian junior track and field team at the World Junior Athletics Championships and I hold a personal best of 10.56 seconds for the 100m sprint.
I started in bobsleigh by competing at European Cup level and went into World Cup later in the season. Over the past seven years I have competed in America’s Cup, European Cup and World Cup competitions on a regular basis.
The highlight of my bobsleigh career was the 2006 Torino Olympic Winter Games. I competed alongside teammate Jeremy Rolleston in the two men bob, and we finished in 22nd place.
After I achieved runner-up in the Under 20 Australian 100m title, I represented Australia at the 1992 World Junior Athletics Championships in Seoul, Korea.
I have been a professional sprinter, competing regularly in South Australian Athletic League, Victorian Athletic League, Tasmanian Athletic League and New South Wales Athletic League events.
I am a 4 time finalist (including twice runner-up to Australian sprint champions and Stawell Gift winners – Dean Capobianco and Steve Brimacombe) in the prestigious Bay Sheffield 120m Gift. The Bay Sheffield is held at Glenelg, South Australia, each year on December 28th.
Among my other successes are the Bay Sheffield backmarker’s invitation 120m (twice); the Bendigo 120m Gift, the 2001 Mount Gambier 120m Gift and during the 1990s to 2002 I was the South Australian 100m and 200m junior and senior sprint champion on several occasions.
In December 2007, I was one of 12 inaugural inductees into the South Australian Athletic League Bay Sheffield Hall of Fame.
I am currently on the Victorian Runners and Trainers Association as Vice President and registered as an Athletics Australia Coach.
