Rudisha still hopes to race world's sprints king Bolt

WORLD 800m record holder David Rudisha yesterday said plans to race with the world 100 metres record holder, Usain Bolt of Jamaica in the 400m are still on.

He said there have been pressure from fans from both sides asking them to compete against each other in 400m and Bolt is equally aware. Rudisha said he is ready to compete against Bolt in the 400m for fun since both have different specialties.

“Many people have been asking me if I can run with Bolt in the same race and I have informed him of what my fans want. He also told me that he is under pressure to compete with me and we have since been making jokes with him on this matter,” said the world and Olympic 800m champion.

“ It’s all for fun and no matter the result, we will have given our fans something to cheer about. I am very keen on the race and I am looking forward to that day,” he added.

Rudisha, however didn’t not indicate when the match up will take place. “It will be good to race together for charity or as an act of health competition when time comes,” he said.

Rudisha has a personal best time of 45.50 seconds in 400m which he posted in 2010 while Bolt on the other hand has a personal best time of 45.28, which he record in 2007 at Kingston in Jamaica.

“That is the only event we can meet and run together and chances of flooring him or beating me will be half-half since I have been participating in the discipline whenever I am preparing for international competitions,” Rudisha added.

Rudisha started off his athletics career as a 400m-runner but his coach Colm O’Connell advised him to try his hand 800m race. The move paid off as he went on to win the world junior championship in that in 2006. This inspired him into specialising in the two lap race and he remains a cut above the rest to date.
