Over 35's 120m FINAL

Heat 3 of the Under 20's 400m where Deng Bulabek gets checked going around the field. It appears the athlete in yellow, Zayne Butcher wasn't aware that Deng was coming past when he steps out to go around Rachel Fisk.

Under 14's 400m won by Hamish Petherick

Honeymoon periods over.
Three meetings into the season and its time to take action on all those that are causing interference in races by not following the correct proceedures when moving out or moving in when running in the circle events.
Youngy highlighted one of a few that occurred Fri evening but if something isnt done now someone is going to get hurt running at the Bay where theres not a real lot of room for error.
Problem seems to have increased in recent years where younger athletes are coming straight from running in lanes at Santos and School to having none at the Pro meets.
Also did anyone else see the SLEEPERS in the 400m.You would think when the backmarker comes round ,you either try and go with him or try and get his back to get yourself into the race.
Obviously two of the sleepers didnt really learn a real lot from the Port 550m where they ran similar tactical races.

Completely agree with your first statement there whispers! there is nothing more frustrating than someone jumping out in front of you as you try passing them.
A few other issues that obviously had to be brought to the table between coaches and officials of the league also in a few rather intense displays.

With only 3 people that have been in both finals 1 has 2 podiums to his name which somewhat narrows it down.
Although maybe another in the final who had an exceptionally good finish could have gone a little earlier I thought it was a good all round race with the most impressive run I have witnessed live from a back marker.
Bubner certainly looking the goods this season!!

Most Impressive run from a backmarker has to be Duncan Tippens in his Camden Win. if you haven't seen it, google it! well worth the watch

As most people who regularly read this forum would know, I've been disappointed by the decline in the standard of the men's 400m running in SA.

In 2008 SA boasted 5 sub 47.10 athletes who were ranked in the  top twenty 400m athletes in the country.

It has declined through the last five years to where we are as at November 2013, with not a single athlete, this calendar year, breaking 49secs. The best time by a SA athlete this year is 49.67 by a decathlete - Jarrod Sims.

Alex Bubner ran a PB at the age of 19 of 47.04 (Jan 2008) and went to the 2006 World Juniors as a 17 year old, running 47.4

What we saw on Friday was Alex returning to his best event and demonstrating what he is capable of. In terms of where it puts Alex at the moment, my guess it is around 48.2 shape.

It was a terrific run, the best of the night and the best run in a 400m race, pro or amateur, we've seen by a male SA athlete for over 18 months.

But it needs to be put into perspective that the athletes he beat are barely 51/52sec runners (off the peg) and Bubner should be able to beat these blokes, conceding around 20m, even when he's over a second off PB shape.

(Mind you, the lack of early pace shown by some of them in the first 200m, was pretty ordinary. Alex shouldn't be catching them inside the first 200m.)

If anything we hope it gives Bubner the confidence to run a 400 out at SANTOS and see him back into the low 47's.
