1 Who's Favorite for the Don Furness on Wed Jan 29, 2014 1:46 pm

Based on recent 70m finals a few names spring to mind.

Dunbar - off 4.75 pretty handy mark and made a lot of finals recently
Vine - Also pretty handy mark of 4.25
Camille - a front marker like stawell at 6.25 has a good start
Douglas - Close to favorite, but running in hobart track classic
Riali - Always in the Mix
Ware- .25 move and can start if let off the leash.

Others to feature . Noddy, Whittaker, Kelly, Tancredi, Weaver.

Will be a close race. Who's your choice.?

After Albury you can throw Hignett into the mix also.

The Don Furness is a great spectacle and was sorely missed last year. A Classic over the 70m distance is rare....

This race has become the birthplace of pro runners who are ready to win a big one (Sam Jamieson went on to win the Stawell Gift and John Nicolosi won Stonnington a week after cashing in at "The Don")

This year I think Ryan Camille will take the cake. He ran an outstanding Semi Final and Final at Stawell and looks to be slowly building this season. He has a handsome handicap and won't be caught if he hits the start.

Ed Ware to be the only major threat... asides from "The Explosion",  Ed is probably the most explosive/prolific block start in the VAL.

My final looks something like this....

70m Don Furness Cam DUNBAR 4.75
As mentioned by Discobull, is a star of the VAL, though he doesn't start as well as he may need to. Though i think good enough to final.

70m Don Furness Ryan CAMILLE 6.25
Hasn't shown enough this season i'm afraid Disco, though a good mark and a good performer. Might get some good odds.

70m Don Furness Noddy ANGELAKOS 6.75
Has made all the main race finals this season in Vic and has a win over 70 this season. Will final, but can't see him winning.

70m Don Furness Mark HIGNETT 7
Didn't feature in my list though has the mark and the pace to make final after his showing on the w/e at Albury.

70m Don Furness Nathan RIALI 3
Might be too tough a mark to win.

70m Don Furness Edward WARE 3
Might actually leave his training spikes at home and race! Handy lift will see him final.

70m Don Furness Darren WHITTAKER 6.5
Haven't seen him in a while, if he shows, one would say he would be fresh enough. Ripper start!

70m Don Furness Sam JAMIESON        2.5
He has stawell swagger, would love to see him in the mix.

70m Don Furness Paul TANCREDI        4
Like Whittaker, haven't seen him run since Rye, so one would have to say he is fresh and ready to go!

Very surprised not to see Carter entered, the man was a certainty!
