Pro Running Reporter Wanted
Those that are astute enough to know that there is a Radio Program on 98.9 Northwest FM on Saturday mornings at 7.30am during the VAL Summer season, will know that there is a voice out there for us “Pro” runners.
Over the many years people like Paul Young, Terry McGarity, Mark Howard, Chris Touhy and myself have spent some time in the studio and on the phone doing weekly reports about our sport.
I have been involved now for about 14 years, first with Terry alongside and lately as a solo presenter. We all have had the pleasure of some great people behind the dials and switches on the console and without them, there would be no show.
Over the years the program, “Sports of all Sorts”, has won many community radio awards and most recently, won the “Best Community Sports Program” in the whole of Australia.
Sadly though, at the end of the last summer season, a stalwart of the radio program decided to retire and to move on and enjoy other things on a Saturday morning. His name is Ivor Jenkins and he was at the helm for over 15 years.
Two new guys have taken over the show recently, Frank & G.I. Joe. They are great guys to work with and are enthusiastic about sport in general.
Why am I telling you all this, well at the end of this summer season, I too will be hanging up the headsets and will be doing other things and hopefully slowing down as I get older.
The sport needs someone to follow in my footsteps and the others before me and continue to have our voice on the airwaves.
The studio is at the Hadfield Tennis Club, Middle Street, Hadfield (Glenroy).
If anyone is seriously interested in taking on this role, please contact me on the details below to come in and have a try, to see if it is for you.
It would be a shame if our program was lost.
Regards
