Jenkins

Old man Jenkins here,

From having a read through the handicaps I am left puzzled and I am not sure if it is of my old age but it seems some athletes seem to be avoiding the adequate penalties from winning certain races across the 70m and 120m races.

The first athletes handicap I am interested in is Rankine. He has competed once in SAAL and has one start over 120m at Camden where he won the 120m gift off 7m (novice). As the prize pool was in excess of $500, according to the SAAL Handicap Penalties Table, an athlete to win $0 - $999 will receive a minimum penalty of 1m. We can see from the handicaps above that he is now off 6.5m.

Continuing on this the same can be said about Ashton. A win at Marion 120m off 7m with less then a handful of starts and is seen at at Loxton to run off 6.5m as well? I have noticed that some athletes have received a lift into this race due to the quality of Dunmall and other Vic runners nominating to coming across the boarder but that case would not stand as a handful are still off the same handicaps from carnivals such as Marion and Camden.

The most interesting case is Woodhams. Impressive win in the 70m (5.50m) at the Keith Aiston Pro Meet last weekend running a 7.644. Woodhams in the 70m at Loxton has not even been awarded a pull and sees himself still on the same mark of 5.50m. The same runner that ran a 13.496 (8m) at Marion 120m Gift then the next weekend ran a 12.528 (7.75m) at St Albens.

To keep consistency across the board for all athletes I think that the strains need to be tightened just a little bit on penalties for winning.

LOL Sounds like Jenkins set himself for Loxton. didn't try at Camden/Marion and now has the shits because he was expecting a handicap advantage over the winners there. Get a violin and a box of kleenex and stay home you sook. The Camden/Marion penalties are in line with previous years.
Max Hagi beats them all.

lol good call racingmania! Marion and Camden have always received 1/2m pulls.

Also I just received footage of old man Jenkins when the marks were released.

Jenkins

Say what you will but what’s the point of having penalties if they aren’t consistent? Just following the rules SAAL released at the start of the season.

Not fussed about the comment about the penalties although I think a 1m penalty for either Camden or Marion would have been ridiculous. Especially Marion where only 11 athletes turned up.

But in respect to another part of the post.....There's nothing worse in this sport than no-bodies who delve into areas they know bugger all about, cherry picking results to justify their position.

Just like 'old man' Jenkins.

Dale Woodhams runs in two entirely different races, a week and 800km apart, in totally different conditions - one into a massive headwind on a rough, slightly up hill track compared to the next week where it is a slight tail wind and the track is obviously better prepared.

Just to show how flawed this sort of comment is - Here's 5 randomly chosen athletes who ran at Keilor and Avondale Heights. Just like Marion/St Albans the meets were a week apart, but decidely closer with Avondale Heights about 12km from Keilor.

K Brittain KLR 12.777s AH 13.505s
H Adams KLR 12.496s AH 13.362s
J Tiu KLR 12.988s AH 13.447s
R Spencer KLR 12.974s AH 13.413s
L Dooley KLR 12.754s AH 13.312s

Clearly the conditions were vastly different between Keilor & Avondale Heights.

So what ever the point Jenkins was trying to make is rendered useless given the vast difference in conditions from one meet to the next particularly when there was no wind gauge at Marion.

.[/quote]

Pretty much spot on , penalties have been anything from 0 to .75 in recent years.

My tip if he makes the trip is the Dartman and as he will probably be the front marker in he final , I think they will be lining up behind him. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Jenkins

Last season Atkins won Camden off 4.5m and was pulled to 3.5m when he nominated next at Flaggstaff Hill. Was pulled the 3m from winning the bay Sheffield then was still good enough to win again and pulled an extra 1m. I’m just reading between the lines. And perhaps SAAL should list in the penalty table for a 120m gift minimum pull is 0.5m for a win?
Agree the Marion penalty is fair regarding the handiful of athletes who competed.

Also agree with Dartnall winning if he makes the trip. In fine form

Final looks like
Dartnall
Hagicostis
Rankine

No good with the tips. Didn't see Callahan coming, nearly won it.
Top win by Baird, been knocking on the door. Unlucky not to make the Bay final.
Hagicostas run well and will be much better for the experience.
Gross Loxton 4th, favourite for Flaggies Gift?
Isn't there a Bay bonus 1m for winning Flaggies?
