My Final:

Carter - Bendigo always allows a quality back marker to make the final which Carter is. Not sure whether he can catch a few in front of him but definitely think he can Final.

Rooke - his 70m form is excellent however for some unknown reason, he can't convert this into a gift run. I can't work out why and that's why i can't dismiss him here

Eschebach - got a lift for this meet and has almost made every final he has run over here this season. Will be a good battle between him and Woodhams all the way down the track. You could flip a coin!

Woodhams - running really well over in SA. Always a good sign when you can win, get pulled, and win again. Has run very quick over the years, hence why people get nervous when his name pops up again! He'll go real close!

Punchihewa - has made a few finals in recent weeks and seems to be building. I think he might be making up the numbers in the final though.

Lugo - hasn't won a gift this year but has always been there about. Has he missed the boat though? All the other contenders have pinched a win from him. Woodhams and Eschebach do seem too close to him but nothing a few beers won't fix! Will final definitely!

Well done to Lugo for being able too stay off the piss and run 12.26. Wouldn’t of happened otherwise. Great stuff!

Some very good previews offered pre event with Baltimore Jack and Nothing At All getting the 'box' trifecta, albeit in a different order.

They were spot on about Eschebach & Woodhams. Only a few centimetres between them, however Rupert Lugo was another 1.5m in front on the line. Running 12.27s will do that.

When Lugo announced he'd imbibed in a few drinks the night before my heart sunk. I knew we had no hope. His ability to find off the back of a hard drinking session is becoming legendary.

In my 'rope-a-dope' days I use to get shit faced the night before a meet to take a few metres off.

Lugo has developed the pro running version of crickets' reverse swing.

Or just maybe he has created this whole "better when I'm pissed" myth to confuse us all.

It was a bloody good run, regardless.
