A TWO-month refurbishment has ushered in a swift sale in Eaglemont for Stawell Gift and Commonwealth Games athlete John Dinan and his author wife Jacqueline.

The Dinans earned $1.35 million for a three-bedroom house at 78 Studley Rd, which they bought in March with the intention of renovating it and moving in, but ending up listing.

Ms Dinan said the 1954 residence sold three days before auction, which was scheduled by Miles Real Estate for this weekend, to “people living locally who were renting, and a bit tentative about the whole auction scenario”.

The Dinans refurbished 78 Studley Rd, Eaglemont in two months.

“Our agent encouraged them to put in an offer and we were happy to make a move,” the author said.

The Ivanhoe East-based couple replaced the home’s blue carpet with Tasmanian oak floorboards, painted its apricot-coloured walls white and installed era-appropriate light fittings as part of a facelift that highlighted its mid-century style.

The house was built in 1954 and retains modernist style.

Miles selling agent Elisse Farquhar said before the sale that the double-storey residence on a 529sq m block offered “a fantastic entry point (into) the blue chip area of the City of Banyule”.

Its selling points included a natural light-filled interior, low maintenance living and closeness to Eaglemont’s train station and village, and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School.

CoreLogic records show the property last changed hands in March for $1.29 million.

Mr Dinan won the 1980 Stawell Gift and competed at Edinburgh’s 1986 Commonwealth Games, while his wife has written a series of books about remarkable women in history.

The house offered “a fantastic entry point” into Eaglemont, its selling agent said.
