For a first off gift having 38 female athletes is good going. I would hope that there is more support as this event looks to cement itself on the calendar. I am somewhat surprised to see Coates declared off behind scratch but I am also very excited to see both her and Reddinguis run. How unlucky do you have to be to have scratch and only be the second back marker! Two absolute quality athletes.

I’d tip Coates to catch Reddingius over the 120m Mex; the 2m advantage might get stretched early but Maddie if in good form should wind up after 60m.

L Stallan is running 12.2 at present so not sure Coates can give her 8m!?

Just wondering why you are surprised Coates is running off behind scratch Mex? Her latest allotted mark last season was -3.25m at Ballarat , where she didn’t run and wasn’t seen for the rest of the season. I’m sure she would be rapt to be given 1.25m back without having a gallop. I wouldn’t have thought any other women will be starting their season 1.25m in front of where they finished last season would they ?

My surprise was not at the mark, it was at the timing of the mark. In the good ole days someone like Coates would be given a mark after all others were declared. Not really an issue, she is as quality as it comes.

I think the voting looks pretty good. No comments tonight, really hard to predict early season form especially when we are starting with a big gift.

Good luck to everyone, make sure you visit the petting zoo.
