29 is too many sports in the olympics. 7 rules to get rid of some of them.

First rule that should be applied before any sport is included in the Olympics. Is winning an Olympic gold medal the highest achievement in that sport?
Gets rid of soccer and tennis.

Second rule is the sport available for the average man or woman in the street. No sport should cost cost shitloads in equipment to do.
Gets rid of sailing and equestrian

Third rule is does the sport already have a form of it.
Gets rid of Beach volleyball. We've already got volleyball.
Taekwondo - got judo that will do.

Fourth rule, you have to be fit and in good condition.
Gets rid of shooting.

Fifth rule can you play it with a beer in your hand or pissed.
Gets rid of table tennis and badminton.

Sixth rule, do you have to wear a stupid peg on your nose.
Gets rid of Synchronised swimming.

Seventh rule - What the f*** is it? If you can't explain how it works it's a waste of time.
Gets rid of modern pentathlon.

That brings it down to 19. Sports should be.
Archery
Athletics
Basketball
Boxing
Canoeing
Cycling
Diving
Fencing
Hockey
Gymnastics
Handball
Judo
Rowing
Swimming
Triathlon
Volleyball
Water Polo
Weightlifting
Wrestling

For a 20th sport they should be bring back baseball.

I Like it,
Same could be said for athletics, like throwing a ball, a disc and a stick, how many things do we need to see be thrown. No offence to those that choose to do these sports.
A "sport" that requires you to not have a heart rate ie shooting is not a sport in my opinion, but I guess it gives me something to do when I get older, should I ever take it up??

It's a decent rule of thumb. Only objection is badminton; try that with a beer in hand and you'll shortly be wringing Coppers Pale Ale out of your underwear. That game is stupidly fast and requires a fair degree of athleticism, agility and quick reflexes.

http://mybadmintonbook.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/fastest-badminton-smash-world-record.html

Fastest smash in a badminton match recorded in excess of 200 mph. Cop that in the body and you'll lose control of your lower alimentary canal.

If you want to make yourself useful, find a reason to remove race walking from athletics and the purview of the IAAF. That would be a genuinely worthwhile achievement. Wink

Badminton is a better spectator sport than the walks or wrestling.

problem for OZ is if we get rid of walks we lose medal chances.
