A long day with the little aths, footballers and wood chop. The gift track was good although cut a little long for my liking Very Happy and there was a patch in the black and grey lanes about 50m out that looked like it had just been replaced. The circle track was round and seemed pretty good. There were some patchy bits, but I didn't think they came into play. the wind started as a 2 - 3m tail wind and finished up to 6m tail!

70m Novice - i thought that Hargreaves (Chris) was going to break his duck with the gift as well after the ease at which he won the 70 novice. Impressive run.

70m Open - Carew ran very well.

120m Women - Good race i nthe final with a close finish. Platten a great effort to win and a better speach with a quick dig at her coach - gold. One starter for the final sat the entire race at the start line after her blocks broke on the gun (shattered more like it). Unlucky.

300m vets - great run from Coull to storm home over the last 50m to win back to back, look for him to feature in 400m or shorten it up over the 120m. He may shock at ringwood?

400m womens - I thought that Sammut should have won with the ease at which she won her heat (20m - 30m). Can't knock the effort of Hammond though.

400m Open - Good win by Foley, I thought he was just making up the numbers after running second in heat, but ran on well into the straight to win.

1600m open - Great finish, Tossil storming home but Williamson holding on by the barest of margins.

120m Gift - Interesting that a few guys got hurt here. 'The Sneeze' (Ah Tiu) seemed to hurt himself as he crossed the line in the semi grabbing his hammy while no one was looking Wink but ran in the final anyway. Carew unlucky to do his on the line making him unable to run in the semi and Kelly (?) did his just before the line in the final. Very good performance by Rollinson to pick up the win. I thought that Sammut (2nd) and Ezard may have featured as the 1 and 2.

I thought the starters had a shocker all day.

Isn't it interesting when runners get beaten soundly one week and turn around and flog you the next. Happend with a couple of runners yesterday over different distances.

I also thought that it was 'frowned' upon to run every distance? A few years back when the sprinters started to run in the 400m we were told that we would not receive any favours when it came to our handicap. There is a runner who has competed in every distance up to 800m so far at each meet. While I am impressed that he can run each of these distances, wouldn't it soften your performance in the gift to run an 800m first? Good luck to him, but I think that he is running along, getting his 'ticks' and if he sits this season on each of his distances, look out next year when he will win the Sprinter of the Year, Distance Athlete of the Year, Athlete of the Year and the Sack race at Christmas.

Runners like S. Hargreaves, Coote and Yorke all running multiple distances in same meet. All capable of doing so but what are they aiming for and how does stewarding address this issue now?
