Thanks Stokesy,

Strong head wind for the sprint events that fluctuated between a gale and a strong breeze. If I was to hazard a guess, at times the head wind was in the 6mps plus range.

It was warm during the early evening before cooling down considerably and being quite cold for the 300m finals,

Well done to the whyalla organisers for putting on such a spectacle in the break.
Loved the airshow.

Hey Paul -

the Bureau of Meteorology web site shows that the Whyalla station recorded wind gusts hitting a maximum of 50kph or 14 metres per sec at 7pm.

Wind speeds recorded were 30 to 40 kph or 8 to 11 metres per sec.

The Whyalla Bureau of Meteorology station is at the airport, so expect a bit lower speeds at the oval, being a bit further inland.

So I reckon 6 metres per sec is a fair guess, maybe quite a bit more ...

It's a shame Kostya didn't run to win his 70th 800m Whyalla title. I was hoping that it would be called the Kostya Khudoshin 800m this year but oh well.

Very silly jealous comment JB.
Only hope Caldow runs in the 2012 Bay Sheff or else you may come on with a simalar statement.

Whispers, maybe you don't realise Kostya is a good friend of mine and I was pointing out how much of a classy runner he is to be able to win it four times and, that, that type of an achievement warrants some attention.

Maybe you didn't pick up the slight joke at how successful he has been and it certainly wasn't discrediting BC's win.. just a bit of lightheartedness clearly lost on you.

I thought he had 5 in a row JB?? Fantastic achievement and if he was there Saturday the race between him and Crawford would have been amazing!! Oh well not to be.

I have a question. How is someone of the calibre of Adam Coote able to run a 70 novice??
Firstly the bloke placed in the stawell gift last year and ran in the final the year before. If I was a victorian official I would be asking some serious questions as to why he hasn't won even a small gift over there but keeps finding form for stawell. Seems a bit coincidental to me.
And secondly I know our novice system is different to Victoria's but surely there has to be a cut off point!!
He was always going to be a class above for that race. Is there a way we could keep our different novice catagories but throw in a prize money limit as well?? Eg if you have come second in an open gift and won $700 dollars you are then ineligible to run the novice similar to the restricted race at the bay??

Can't change the rules to stop them entering but throw in Stawell gift tax and make him run off less in a novice. Should have run off less than 5.75.

Could be right Rookie.. I thought it was 4 but 4 or 5 is still pretty epic. Straight final- I would have had my biccies on KK.

Out and about on Sat night and heard a certain athlete drives as fast as they run.
Apparently all the prizemoney won at Whyalla has ended up in the States coffers courtesy to their heavy foot on the way home.
