Found it very strange that the Athlete of the Carnival was awarded to Corey Baker. Taking nothing away from Baker, I'm not sure how megan Letton didn't win that award. beat two class Womens fields, and whilst baker won the most prestigious Sash on teh ngiht, his double doesn't comapre to Megans.

IMO, at the very least, it should have been a shared award. Even Terry McAuliffe seemed surprised, and rightly so.

When an award is selected at someones or some peoples descretion there will always be people that disagree ,thats why we are humans.
Imagine if Edwards had won the 120m gift ,would the skins and gift tipped her over the line.

A couple of Athlete of the meets where I disagreed in the past and this is only my opinion are the Loxton meet last year when Sam Osmond with his under 17 win beat Amy Robb with her win and second.
Also last years Camden Classic meeting ,I thought Peter Hydes effort to win the distance event off one of the back marks was a better performance than Andreas but we have a selection panal and wether right or wrong they make the decision.

Lauren Edwards couldn't win the 120m GIFT and the Skins. The Skins is for runners not in the Gift.
if she did win the GIFT, she would have won the Athlete of the meet hands down! First chick to win it!
The Gift is the big race, a runner wins that and another, he wins athlete of the meet.
hypothetical.....I wonder if Alicia WD entered and got 12.00m, could she make the final?

Edwards finsihed second in the Womans Gift.
Could she have won athlete of the meet if she had have won that plus the skins which she did

It's a tough decision..

I think when you have two athletes do a double, then maybe there should be a consideration of the marks relative to each athletes fields.
But there is still a question of whether or not that should be such a persuasive factor, as after all, is pro running not based on delegated marks according to individual ability? And therefore, about individual improvement, rising to the occasion, etc.?
I guess in this sense one could argue that Josh Ross winning a gift off 4m is not a very spectacular run, even though 4m itself is quite impressive.

Because of this, what I think maybe should be considered first is the versatility of the events won. In my opinion, a 70 is more closely paired with a 120 than a 300 to a 120.

Prestige is important of course. The 120 open, clearly wins. But the 120 women’s and 300 women’s beats the 70 Novice. So you’ve got 1st & 4th vs. 2nd & 3rd
I know you have a different opinion on the 70 novice field vs. the 120 women’s. But you've got Bay finalists, recent women’s gift winners, and Camden finalists/winners in the 120 women’s...

Great effort by Corey Baker to win the 70m Novice and 120m Open on the same Loxton program. My memory tells me another runner has done it previously but don't have the results handy. Can anyone remember if it's been done before?

Bingo! That's the one - Steve Landers did the same double.

Its good to see that even Youngy can listen to and take advice.
If you can remember he took quite a few hits over Richards winning an open event before being given opportunities to win his Novice.
Its quite noticable this season that Schlanders and Baker have both won their novices before winning an open.
Young runners enjoy winning sashes and its good to see that these runners have been managed a little better to enable them to have a Novice sash hanging on their walls.
Its one sash that you will never win if you let the opportunity slip by.

I personally don't entirely agree with going for a Novice before doing the Open events. I believe if you are already capable of competing and more importantly, winning an Open event then by all means go for it. Leave the Novice events for those that are actual Novices and need the competition and morale boost.

I know I've never won any Novice event and still have the opportunity to enter them in some event brackets but won't because I'm competitive when entering Open events. I'd rather focus my efforts on the main event and leave the Novice for those that truly need it.

Yes, a sash is a sash but I would rather work for a sash and enter a race with uncertainty. Being in great form, entering a Novice knowing I should win and winning, just wouldn't feel like a sash to me.

My opinion is probably in the minority but that's my 2c anyway.

The current S.A. Handicapper was also able to achieve a similar result at the big Port Pirie Meet a few years back now, winning a 120 Novice then also saluting in the Open 400 Meter Race. This would also rate fairly high.Going into the meet the stable were fairly confident of running well in both events.

I find the term " Taking nothing away from Baker " right up there with ...... " no disrespect but..." When people use these terms that's exactly what they're doing. Baker ran exceptional and his times were awesome. His markers were more impressive than those of Letton and therefore even Blind Freddy could see that it went to a worthy winner. Not sure what you were looking at Harold Holt, you must have been tired after your long swim.

I don't think Harold Halt took anything away from Corey Baker. He clearly states that it's his oppinion that he is wanting to share. and he shares it without belittling anyone.
