Scotland's athletics head coach resigns

Scotland's athletics hopefuls are without a head coach following the resignation of Laurier Primeau, who has been in the role since October 2009.

Primeau is returning to his native Canada, having overseen preparation and performances at the Commonwealth Games.

Scotland picked up two track and field medals in Delhi; Steph Twell winning a 1500m bronze and Eilidh Child finishing second in the 400m hurdles.

Glasgow is the host city for the next Commonwealth Games in 2014.

scottishathletics, under the new leadership team of chairman Frank Dick and chief executive Nigel Holl, has recently launched a revised strategic plan designed to "encompass the critical preparation and build-up to 2014, as well as laying the foundations for further participation and performance success".

On Primeau's departure, Dick, former national coach for athletics in Scotland and former director of coaching for UK Athletics, said: "It's often difficult to balance the requirements of such a pivotal role with the demands of a young family, especially in a 'foreign' country.

"We're very grateful for Laurier's sterling efforts and his contribution to the development of our sport and wish him and his family well for the future."

Holl added: "We've already taken this opportunity to begin a very brief period of restructuring, ensuring staff roles completely align with our revised strategic priorities.

"Replacement roles will be advertised widely to ensure athletics in Scotland has the most suitable and effective staff in key positions as we continue the drive towards 2014 and beyond."
