Very disappointed with the 2nd Placegetter saying he was PISSED OFF with the Handicapper for the Mark he received.
We are now catering for athletes as young as 12 years old and I dont think they need to hear that sort of language directed at Officials.
First of all Great Run on Sat night but you let yourself down badly on the dais.
You won in 2016 and on Sat night you were allocated 4 metres less on 12m, so WHATS THE PROBLEM
Theres has been 3 x 300m races at meetings since Christmas yet you have chosen to only run at one.
I will be very disappointed if the SAAL doesnt take further action considering the age of athlete we have running now, They simply dont need to hear that sort of language directed at Officials. No  No
Below is a list of past winners of the 300m at Loxton and the difference in Mark they received the following year.

2011 Ali Salui.........-6
2012 Jake Stangewitz.........-4
2013 Alex Salui.............-4
2014 Damian Tohl......-6
2015 Luke Houlihan ....did not nominate
2016 Wallace Long Scafidi..........-4

So as you can see the Handicapper is very consistant and the fact you ran 2nd says the Handicapper has got it pretty well right.
I know in the heat of disappointment you may say things that later you may regret and this may be the case here.

I'm not sure when this incident that Whispers is referring to occurred. I was near and around the finish and never saw it. I'm not disputing the veracity of Whispers' allegations however it certainly wasn't something that was noticeable immediately following the event.

My guess if there was some issue over a handicap it may have been regarding the 120m?

It was on the Dais being interviewed by Terry for everyone to hear, which somewhat tarnished the effort he had just put in.
For those locals who dont regularly attend SAAL meetings and for those with young families I just thought that his timing to have a shot at the Handicapper and the language used was out of place.
We all regret saying things at times and I think if he was to have his time on the mike over again he may not quite vent his anger on his handicap the same way.

Whispers,

Calling the shots from the cheap seats again?

You'll be disappointed if the SAAL don't action something huh? Who is the SAAL? Who are the people that you will be disappointed in?

Do you expect action from doing the old keyboard warrior thing on a public forum without putting your name to it? It's not impressive.

If you really have a concern, the correct way to action it is to write to the SAAL office and set it out. Be good to sign it with your name too.

Roster for Flagstaff Hill - Saturday 11th March 2017

First three named should be good for several helpers. In fairness to Haney he only has one athlete and he's not running at Flagstaff Hill.
Team Tempo - waste of time, them being rostered on. May as well put Team Trump on the roster.

Flagstaff (John LeRay)
Reynella (Gary Thompson)
Southern (Ali Saliu)
Team Tempo (Adam Didyk)
ATS (Michael Hane)

All Im saying BG is I have too much respect for the Officials ,to let what was said pass without some sort of action.
No need to write to the SAAL as it was out there for everyone to hear.
Im assuming you either didnt hear it or it didnt bother you and that really suprises me if you heard it and it was okay as you had a very young squad with you Sat night.

Can't believe I'm engaging with somebody who I don't even know, but Whispers, you haven't answered any of the questions I have asked have you?

I didn't hear what apparently got said, because I was off doing other things...

...so that gets me to the questions - who is it at the SAAL that needs to action your concerns? Am I expected to action them because you have chosen to anonymously raise issue on a public forum? You can't tell me you expect that to happen and keep a straight face can you?

There actually is a necessity to raise it formally, and properly, with the SAAL office if others didn't hear it. If you don't want to, then I can only assume that you are yet another armchair expert who sits up the back of the grandstand and criticises the way that the real people are doing things.

I expect you'll harp on again about what apparently got said as your answer to this post. Don't bother. My questions relate to your conduct, not that of the person you have an issue with.

Go your hardest though. You'll have a free hit, because I won't respond anymore...at least not until you can put up.

BG you are very aggressive in your response to Whispers!

If that's what Whispers heard, then that's what Whispers heard.

Is it really for Whispers to choose a name from SAAL and order action? Why do you need a name? Whispers is using the word SAAL as an organisation, not an individual.

SAAL is the overarching body in which Whispers believes would have the authority to stamp out anything that would bring our sport into disrepute.... whatever...

Must be a slow news week in the athletics world for anyone to be talking about this!

What I said is what I said if you feel a bit buthurt by it well that's your problem, had my time again I would have said it again and again.

If you knew the first thing about me you would know I say what I want and have no problem speaking my mind no matter where or when and who I say it to, and I won't be stopping that just to appease some like yourself who talks crap about others, probably because you can't do it yourself!!

As for the Saal doing something about it I invite them to contact me but I would bet they have better things to do with their time.

I also invite you whispers next time you feel like voicing an opinion to bring it straight to me seeing as I guess you were there at Loxton you would have had time to come speak to me as many people did after the race all of which didn't seem to mention a problem with what I had to say.

Betina! I agree with you, to say anything about an official on the dais is very disappointing. BG i think you need to re read what Whispers has read as it was not having a go at anyone just simply stating what was heard.

Given Wallace has not denied the comments, we can't criticise Whispers - that's just shooting the messenger.

He clearly was offended by the comments and felt they were out of line.

On this rare occasion, I agree with Whispers. The dais is no place to criticise the handicapper. You should talk about the race and keep it positive, showing gratitude to the sponsors and thanking a few people such as coach, stable, family etc.

From what I understand Wallace accepts he's not running well and declared (privately) Loxton was his last run for this season. If he was in best shape, he most likely would still be running for a few more weeks, if for no other reason but to finish the season with a PB.

I don't know the background as to why he has not been running as well this season, as he has in the past. I can only assess Wallace on what I've seen.

Recently in the ASA state championships, in good conditions he could only manage 22.45 for 3rd place, 5m behind Harrison Hunt (21.86) and Liam Moss (21.88).

Before that he ran 51.54sec for 400m, finishing behind another couple of teenagers in Hamish Petherick (51.32) and Shantan DeSilva (51.05).

That's a fair war way off his best.  On Saturday, despite being out of form, he still managed to finish 2nd off 12m in the 300m. It was a pretty good run in the circumstances.

Clearly if he was in best shape - say around low 49s for 400m he probably wins the 300m on Saturday.

The fact is - it wasn't the handicapper's fault he was beaten so he should not have had a crack at Leon Burckhardt.

In my view - given what he has achieved over the journey including some decent PBs - he has the marks to be very competitive and is capable of winning races.

OK,

Last one - so that there can be no misunderstanding.

There is a right way to raise a concern and then there is posting something on a forum under an alias and saying you'll be disappointed if somebody else doesn't do something (without actually saying who that somebody else is).

I have set out, pretty plainly, what the right way is. That has been not just ignored, but rejected. If you don't want to do it the right way, stick to the cheap seats and getting nowhere.

..and to be abundantly clear, I'm not commenting at all on what did or did not get said. I wasn't listening, so I didn't hear it.

None of this is rocket science.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ATHLETIC LEAGUE INC

4.3
Abuse of officials
Up to $500

In an earlier post you said who is the SAAL, well the SAAL INC whoever they are have a set of rules and Scales of fees and fines.
Certainly doesnt warrant $500 fine but the least a Written warning.
I wont be commenting on this subject again but just hope in coming meetings we dont have a 12 year old saying something similar because its okay for the older athletes to do it.Certainly a very good defence !!
