Nesta launches 100m campaign with 10.27

SPANISH TOWN, Jamaica - Nesta Carter, the world's fourth fastest man, launched his 100m campaign at the Jamaica Administrative Athletic Association (JAAA) 3rd All Comers Meet on Sunday at GC Foster College earlier today.

Carter, who eased down 10 metres from the line, was timed in 10.27 seconds (-0.4m/s wind). Oshane Bailey was second in 10.30 while Andrew Fisher did 10.40 for 3rd.

"I feel pleased coming out injury free," were Carter's first words. "I just have to look forward to the next race (Prefontaine Classic) and try to improve on time. The line-up will be good, so I will have some competition there," Carter told trackalerts.com.

Odeen Skeen ran a personal best 10.41 to win his heat while Barbadian Andrew Hinds did 10.45 for 8th overall.

In the women's section, Edwin Allen's schoolgirl Christania Williams ran 11.62 seconds to beat St. Jago's Melisa Williams (11.98) in heat one. However, Claudette Allen, also of Edwin Allen, who won heat three in 11.92, finished 2nd overall.

Ristananna Tracey went for speed over endurance by running 23.63 to beat her 200m competitors, which included Janeive Russell (24.10) and Yanique Ellington (24.23).

Nicholas Maitland's 21.14 secs was the top time in the men's 200m.

Michael Mason ran 45.91 to beat national champion Oral Thompson (46.05) and Peter Matthews (46.10) in the men's 400m.

In the women's 400m, Shereefa Lloyd took victory in 52.32 ahead of Davita Predergast (53.37) and Anastasia LeRoy (53.93).

Lloyd spoke to trackalerts.com after the race. "It was a pretty relaxed race, and pretty even race, so I am happy with the season best I got today."

"I wasn't exactly looking forward anything, I just came out to execute and I am working on a few stuff, so I try to put that into play today and see where I am at," she added.
