Always a good field and this week is no exception. Will we see a final where everyone wants the win or will we see the Stawell winner? One thing is for sure it will be quick!

Pike. After watching the women's final yesterday, it would appear that this coming Friday might be higher on the agenda. Or is she good enough to win $50k for the season?

Untouchables it will be a six women final. You need to drop 2 out. Cantrun "Computer says NO "  Her Ballarat run makes her a 14.00sec hundred metre runner. Surely a 14sec hundred metre runner can't win Stonnington or win Stawell off 11m.

P.s would be very surprised is Farmer wins as she has a 13.4 pb for a 100m, and there are girls off 4-4.5m who are running low 12's in the 100m this season..

Farmers run in the Under 18's at Ballarat suggests she is more like a 12.4 12.5 runner SpeedyGon which puts her well and truly in the mix at Stonnington even though I would think Stawell would be a more suitable target for her and she might just drop short.

If you think Farmer is only a 13.4 100m runner you're not doing your homework. She ran 14.37 off 3.50 to win u18 120m at Hectorville.
Do the maths. She's capable of running well inside 13.0.
The women's Hectorville final was won in 14.37. if Molly ran in the womens 120m she would have won by 3m.
She won the 70m at the bay and Maryborough necklace 120m against older girls.
For 14, Farmer is a star and a massive chance on Friday.

Clearly haven't done my homework haha. Fair effort to improve 1 whole second in a 100m in less than a year Question (even for a 14 year old.. that is a lot).
New easter bunny?
I still think she'll fall short at Stonnington, as the girls seasons bests behind her are still too much I would think.

Probably the most interesting lead up race and form guide to the Women's Stawell Gift. Warning to Athletes with Stawell aspirations that fall in between the marks of 5.5m and 9.25m. If you don't want to win Stonnington maybe move hell and earth to maybe just miss the Final. Here's who I think are the main players

Graf - Easter Bunny No
Payne - To far back No
Dobbyn - See Graf
Byrt - Not sure I'm guessing she would want to have a tilt at Stawell
Blizzard - See Dobbyn
Domachenz - Has 2, won't want and won't get 3
Henderson - See Payne
Taylor - See Blizzard
Farmer - See Taylor
Lane - Great chance before Rye. Not so now
Perry - Can and may very well join Domachenz as a two time winner and my tip
Owen - Probably waiting for Stawell
Richards - The Classic Easter Bunny. Don't expect to see her run
Martin - Not interested in winning this race
LJ Hilditch - See Owen
Venardos - Interesting runner with good mark. Surely waits till Easter
Strauss - See Hilditch
Jones - Not
sure she is going as well as last season. No
Boustead - Lost all early season form. Building mark for Stawell I think
Stevens - See Strauss
Keating - Can win on Wang run. Can't win on Ballarat run
Phillips - See Stevens
Pike - Form says no but has a huge mark and will be watched by Stewards. Expect rumblings if she does win
Kasey Moore - can't win Stawell , can win this

So my Final is

Dobbyn
Blizzard
Taylor
Perry
Venardos
Kasey Moore

Winner Perry
2nd Venardos
3rd Moore

Good luck to all the girls

That is the times that she has given the stewards, and that is her pb on track.
But clearly haven't done my homework haha. Far effort to improve 1 whole second in a 100m in less than a year Question (even for a 14 year old.. that is a lot).

How do you know what time has been submitted to stewards? Does the VAL run the office like the Trump govt and letting out confidential info. Regardless I'm glad you admit you haven't done your homework. On recent form Farmers obviously much better than 13.4 for a 100.
She'll make the final on recent form.

As far as SA runners go Round is actually better placed than Farmer looking at Bay Sheff results. Round started 1m in front of Farmer & put 3 or 4m on her. Farmer now gives her an extra .25m start. Blizzard should win.

One of the very best Women's races in Vic. This final is going to be one of the best. Quality back markers with a few good chances out in front. That is what Pro running is all about. 120 votes is as good as it gets so a real trend showing. It could be the final.

Sarah Blizzard 3.5m 10% - Quality! Back marker, running well and a huge chance to take the win. Will be able to judge her race, yes even in a 100m race, to just miss if that is her goal. We may see more from who doesn't win than who does. The Stawell winner could be hiding in this final. Blizzard will be in the mix for one of them.

Sophie Taylor 4.5m 11% - Taylor has been honing her skills in the open gift races and will take her chances either here or in a months time. Much the same as Blizzard, watch for her is she doesn't win. Has probably been set for something later in the season and may have made a mistake earlier. Final, no win.

Molly Farmer 5m 11% - May make the final but will not win. If she keeps this mark for next year we may not see her until Easter 2018! Unless of course there is an incentive program built in for the women.

Stephanie Richards 5.5m 11% - Running in most small gift finals. ticking over the bank account nicely. Does she want to win at all? Should be in the mix in this but again I do not think this is on her radar. Why not. Take the win young lady!

Taylah Perry 5.75m 8% - The pint sized Perry will take some beating here. A quarter in front of Richards is enough for mine. Can she win again? Definite final chance. Better suited to the 100m compared to the 120m in my book.

Kirsty Stevens 8m / Sylvie Bischof 8.25m - Stevens has been thereabouts all season and just missing the win Wink She must be looking at the bigger races and why not here? Will have something to chase for part of the race and then look to hang on. She must hold her form and not lean towards the line as that will cost her the win. Bischof not ready yet.

Dani Pike 11.25m / Kasey Moore 11.75m - If Pike wins the stewards will be all over it. Given fair warning in the stewards report and rightly so. Should not have run the 300m after making the 120m final. Should not have made the final based on her Ballarat result. She may go missing for a bit and focus on either Easter or next year. Good mark though. Moore is an interesting one. I have seen her look a lot fitter over the longer distances but her Ballarat form showed she has some speed. May make the final but will not be able to hold off some of my more fancied athletes.

I cannot believe I am talking about one of the biggest Women's races for the year and talking about girls not actively trying to win. Who knows. One thing is for sure this will be a cracker of a final. It always is!

Last year Exum, Blizzard, Payne, and Jones all made this final then made the Stawell final. It is the perfect trial for later in the year. Without the Stawell lift incentive it is difficult for the girls to run anywhere. That is why this race is a must start. The hardest part for someone who wants to win will be making the final. Once in the final you may find over ½ the field not wanting the win.
It is a big decision for an aspiring Stawell hopeful. Take the 10k if it presents tonight or leave yourself in the raffle for Easter and the chance of pulling 40k out of the hat.
Remember girls, if you can’t make this final with a bit up your sleeve, you will not win Stawell.

Absolutely spot on Ribera Stonnington is to Stawell as the Caulfield Cup is to the Melbourne Cup for the women. Look for those flashing home late for a placing as the ones to watch come Stawell. But I'm sure as my kid did last season whoever is holding the big Novelty Cheque at the end of the night will have a grin from ear to ear. She still gets a buzz when Cartha announces her as a Stonnington gift winner. For the record ,My tip is Taylah Perry
