Wallace Spearmon: I have lost ground on Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay

By Racquel Smith,

TEXAS (Sporting Alert) — American sprinter Wallace Spearmon has admitted that he has lost ground on Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay, but is confident of racing on the same level with the stars again.

Spearmon, a 200 metres specialist, recalled the days when he used to battle with Bolt and Gay on the circuit, but thinks that nowadays its all about the “big two.”

“When we first started off, there was Bolt, Tyson and myself. I beat them, they beat me,” Spearmon said in a report by AP.

“Depending on the weekend, you never knew who was going to win. Nowadays, when there’s a race, it’s, ‘Bolt’s going to win’ or ‘Tyson’s going to win.’

“I feel like if I can just get healthy, I’ll be right up there with the best of them.”

Spearmon used to chased down Bolt and Gay with his late surge, but now admits that Bolt, the sprinter double world record holder, especially, will not be that easy to catch now.

The American still remains optimistic.

“No one’s unbeatable,” he said. “But it’s going to take a heck of a race to beat him (Bolt).”

The 26-year-old remains fifth-fastest over 200m on the all-time list with a time of 19.65ssecs, set in 2006.
