Monday, 26 July 2010Yohan BlakeYohan Blake believes his stunning 19.78 run at Thursday's 10th Samsung Diamond League meeting in Monaco's Stade Louis II will force Usain Bolt, his training partner, to cut back on his jokes against him.
"Everyday Usain Bolt troubles me and asks me what is my personal best over the 200m, and today when coach Mills told him, he is very happy for me ... He is also happy that someone can join him in Jamaica," said Blake.
Blake dropped his personal best 200m from 20.60 to 19.78 tin Monaco. Blake now believes he is a better 200m runner than 100m.
"I would say I am a better 200m runner because my top end is outrageous."
In the race, Tyson Gay, who headlined the sprints in Monaco in the absence of world record-holder Usain Bolt, got off to a strong start and just held off Blake's surge in the closing meters to set a meet record.
Blake was happier to drop his personal best from 20.60 while saying, "It's going to help me to run really fast over the 100m, but I just need to remain focused and do what my coach says"
As to how faster he can get over the 200m, "I am not sure as yet, but I know I can go faster, because this was only my first 200m in one year."
20.6 to 19.78 - that is some serious improvement.
