The women's 120m is always a highlight. Who can forget when one of our classiest in Anna Pasquali (nee Deary) won this race three times from tight marks. There is more votes here than for the open gift but again many are spread across the field. Maybe people just don't want their charge being talked about so have spread far and wide?
Maddie Coates 2m 9% - Maddie is a great athlete. Like all tall athletes her start is her worst part but once up and running is a threat to the field and great to watch. Pro running does not seem her focus recently and I am sure that the tight mark reflects this. Good luck reducing your PB even further. Great prospect.
Alexia Loizou 5m 9% - Another great talent Alexia has a mark that could see her cause some trouble. In 2014 as a junior she had 10m and is no stranger to competing against some of our regulars. Not sure she will take this one but being seen by the handicapper may result in a lift. No one knows, not even the guidelines.
Ebony Lane 7m 11% - Lane showed a clean set of heels to her competitors at Northcote. Only back a half from then but won by 3m! Right in this one. Definitely one to watch.
Kate Jones 8.5m 10% - Jones is always one who receives votes. I thought she was a real chance at Stonnington last season before she withdrew from the final. Nice looking runner and another one who may find herself in the mix.
Kirsty Stevens 9.5m / Brienna Musgrave 10m 10% - Stevens has turned into a very good pro runner. It is probably fair to say that she has lived in the shadow of Luke but now is her time to shine as well. Great mark, good form. If she wins here she takes home a very good race. If she doesn't, she will need to be crafty to last until Easter. Does she have enough in her to make the big dance? I think she may still be a little off so take the race. Musgrave is another athlete who shows promise but I feel that on current form the votes would be for Stevens. She was one of my votes. Musgrave was off the pace previously this season so not in my top chances.
Some very talented ladies have won this race, before Stawell raised the money on offer it was one of the best. Let's hope that tradition continues.
